The practice of yoga is built on welcoming all types, but the majority of products for the practice skew towards a student that is a fan of prints, bright colors, and enough straps to circle the globe.
Keeping things simple. Photo: Courtesy of Dingzeyo Li/Unsplash If you’re a minimalist who also appreciates a nice savasana now and then, we’ve got the gear you’ll need to get into downward dog. Here’s our favorite yoga gear for the minimalist. Roxy After Sunset Side Zip Yoga Top ($55)
The side zipper is an update on the classic zip-up. Photo: Courtesy of Roxy We appreciate a new silhouette on a yoga top, and we appreciate it even more when it’s in heather grey, a staple in the minimalist’s wardrobe. (It goes with everything.) Roxy’s take on the after-class yoga top is perfect for summer nights and warmer fall and spring evenings. We wouldn’t recommend anything midriff-baring for the winter months, but if you live in a warm climate, more power to you. Outdoor Voices 7/8 Springs Legging ($95)
This colorway has us drooling onto our keyboard. Photo: Courtesy of Outdoor Voices With the exception of some (dare we say, fun) prints incorporated into their hiking gear, OV is known for their color blocking being the extent of any kind of print action going on. Their gear is made from technical fabrics, but meant to look good enough to wear in your most leisurely moments. Matt and Nat Gene Yoga Bag ($155)
This bag speaks for itself. Photo: Courtesy of Matt and Nat Thank goodness for Matt and Nat. I’m not saying I dislike color, but if I had to see one more pink yoga bag, I was going to lose my mind. This yoga mat bag is androgynous enough that my partner might steal it and bring it to his own yoga class, and appeals to the print-averse and monochromatic bunch just fine. You can even get a little wild and order the canvas color way, if you’re looking to kick things up a notch. Vuori Kore Short ($68)
The Coolmax anti-odor liner featured in this short makes it easy to run a quick errand after class without having to change first. Photo: Courtesy of Vuori If a subtle camo print is about as far as you’ll venture into the world of patterns, this yoga short was made for you. Color blocking ensures you won’t get too much print action going on – just enough for this practicing next to you to notice. These shorts will be able to transition from the yoga studio to lunch without drawing too much attention. Carbon38 Ophelia Yoga Bra ($80)
The muted colorway and mesh detail of this sports bra take it to the next level. Photo: Courtesy of Carbon38 With its classic high neckline and nude color way, this yoga steps it up in an understated way with its mesh overlay – it’s a subtle addition to an otherwise basic piece, and minimally-minded yoga participants won’t want to take it off.
