So you’re a competitive guy. You don’t like showing up in the same shirt or tie as your coworker. You prefer music by bands yet to be discovered. And if your gym buddies are raving about your favorite date spot, it’s definitely time to seek out a new gem.

When it comes to your personal fragrance, it’s no surprise you’d rather be the first to know about what’s cool and upcoming — cologne that makes you smell great but that (more important) your friends don’t already wear. But wandering around the department store ain’t happening, and neither is buying a $200 bottle of Eau d’Stud.  Wouldn’t it be great if someone could sort through the hundreds of options for you, and send you a select few niche scents from artisanal labels in sample sizes, so you could take them for a test drive?  Tranquilo, tigre. For you, there’s BirchboxMan Fragrance Flight. With this well-edited package of sample-size colognes, you can test out seven different rotating scents from high-end, niche brands for a mere $25. (Full-sized and a la carte, this collection would cost well over a grand.) So what do you get for your moolah? Because the selections rotate, they will vary. But here’s what we received: what we received: Invigorating: Thirdman Eau Inexplicable is a bright, fresh scent. Sage, patchouli, vetiver, and cedar combine to create a country grass-and-herbs scent. Summery: Etat Libre d’Orange Cologne takes a light blend of blood orange, bergamot, and orange blossom, mixes in some warm notes of jasmine, then finishes it all off with a base of leather and musk. Spicy: Eight & Bob Original was first created by a French aristocrat back in 1937. The spicy scent is made from cedar, amber, and patchouli, plus an “undisclosed” ingredient, rumored to be from the jungles of Chile, that adds a little kick. Beachy: Montale Fougères Marines has a scent akin to what you’d suspect seawater would smell like if it were infused with lavender, geranium, oak moss, and patchouli. Paired with a musky base, it’s like a walk in the sand at sunset. Woodsy: Montale Santal Wood brings juniper, sandalwood and oak moss together in a crisp fragrance that holds its own, in the office out or to dinner. Warm: CoSTUME NATIONAL Soul is an ideal scent for winter, blending rich amber, cardamom, and bergamot, with a leather and oud wood base. Gentlemanly: Histoires de Parfums 1899 conjures up images of sophisticated European gents with its elegant blend of Italian bergamot, black pepper, orange blossom, cinnamon, and vetiver.
