At San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Netflix premiered a full-length, action-packed trailer for the upcoming original sci-fi film Bright. Directed by Suicide Squad’s David Ayer, Bright stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as a pair of cops living in an alternate universe filled with orcs, fairies, and elves. Oh, and one of them (Edgerton) is an orc. It’s a sort of The Wire-meets-Lord of the Rings take on the classic cop drama, as Smith and Edgerton’s characters must set aside their differences and join forces to keep a powerful object from getting into the wrong hands. With a seemingly endless number of originals set to release this year, Netflix’s most expensive film to date is Bright, with a reported budget of $90 million, according to Engadget. While the trailer visually delivers some intense action, its whimsical plot leaves us with some questions. Namely: Who’s the girl? Why is this magic wand so dangerous?
