Australian surfer Russell Bierke has no fear. His latest ride proves it. The 21-year-old took to the water earlier in November at Nazaré in Portugal to ride an incredibly big wave, going down a 60-foot swell to show that he truly is a fearless rider when he gets in the water.

In January 2018, surfer Maya Gabeira took on a 68-foot wave at Nazaré, riding it all the way from trough to crest, setting an an official Guinness World Record in the process. Gabeira made her mark by surfing the “largest wave surfed (unlimited) – female,” but that wasn’t the biggest wave surfed at Nazaré, not even close.

Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa beat out Garrett McNamara’s record of a 78-foot wave (also at Nazaré) by riding an 80-foot monster swell, earning Koxa a Quiksilver XXL Biggest Wave Award and a place in the Guinness World Record books. Even though Bierke didn’t set a record or ride the wave successfully, it’s still a pretty impressive accomplishment to get swallowed by a 60-foot wave and make it out the other side. Bierke joked in his Instagram post of the video that he “Got pretty lit up the other day.” The wave was the biggest swell of the season up to that point, according to CoastalWatch.com. Here’s a look:
