If you’re looking for a break from the superhero fighting, high-octane robot explosions, and big-budget CGI at the movies this summer, Logan Lucky might be your oasis. The latest film from Ocean’s 11 director Steven Soderbergh doesn’t have a superhero in sight. Instead, it centers on brothers Jimmy (Channing Tatum) and Clyde Logan (Adam Driver) as they try to pull off a huge heist at “the biggest race of the year”—NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The brothers are endearing and a bit dimwitted, but they’re fully committed to their plan. To pull off the heist, they visit an expert in blowing up bank vaults, “Joe Bang” (Daniel Craig, playing very much against his James Bond archetype). There are quite a few laughs in this trailer:
Logan Lucky is Soderbergh’s first theatrical feature film as director in four years, and he looks plenty excited to jump back into the director’s chair for yet another heist flick after his time behind the camera for all three Ocean’s films. Logan Lucky, also starring Katherine Waterston, Sebastian Stan, Katie Holmes, and Seth MacFarlane, is set to hit theaters on Aug. 18, 2017.
