Aston Martin is recreating the silver 1964 Aston Martin DB5 car from the Sean Connery-led James Bond film Goldfinger, according to a press release from the company. In order to view the video, please allow Manage Cookies
There will only be 25 cars created for purchase as part of this limited edition run, so that means the new DB5’s are going to cost a pretty penny: about $3.5 million (£2.75 million), plus taxes. The original factory that produced the 1964 version will be making these new cars, and the limited edition vehicle will come with some familiar gadgets and James Bond Aston Martin trappings, including a rotating license plate. Chris Corbould, who was the special effects supervisor on eight James Bond films, is helping to work on the other gadgets for the car, which haven’t been revealed yet.

The only drawback? The car won’t be “road legal,” according to Aston Martin. But it’ll make one hell of a collector’s item. “The connection between Aston Martin and James Bond is something of which we are very proud and it is remarkable that the DB5 remains the definitive James Bond car after so many years,” said Andy Palmer, president and CEO of Aston Martin in the release. “To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans, but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy. The skilled craftspeople at Aston Martin Works and the expert special effects team from the James Bond films are about to make this fantasy real for 25 very lucky customers.” Customers who purchase the limited edition James Bond Aston Martin car will have to wait until 2020 to receive them. But for any true James Bond fan, it’ll be worth the wait.
