Now, with 2020 in full swing, it’s time to buckle down and make sure you’re doing what you need to keep your fitness goals in mind and hit them. Resolutions can be hard to keep, but if you focus the right way, you can get things done. For example, a recent survey by California Almonds found that some of the most popular resolutions include more exercising (60%), getting enough sleep (53%) and eating a healthy breakfast (29%). With all his experience, Calliet knows what it takes to stick to your plans, resolutions, and goals and make sure you’re hitting the points you want to hit in your fitness. “It’s not enough to just have a plan for your goals, more importantly, you need to have a plan for how you will stay consistent in your pursuit,” Calliet says. “Don’t get caught up in some overcomplicated plan that makes it difficult to execute while balancing life’s demands, keep it simple, plan to move everyday and take steps toward your goals. Whether it’s staying on point with your nutrition, or getting your sweat in for the day, any step forward is a step closer to achieving your goals”

Along with all the work he’s doing on his own, Calliet is back to work again with Jordan on his next movie, the action film Without Remorse. When Calliet first gets together with Jordan for a new film, he gets in-depth on everything that Jordan needs to do. “I first assess where his body is at, then where it needs to be to fit the aesthetic and functioning of the role he’s entering,” Calliet says. “This helps us determine the best course of action for developing his physique to meet the physical demands of the project and understand what type of training and nutrition needs to be implemented. Some projects require night filming or longer days on set – to keep his body changing I need to ensure everything is accounted for from the workouts, to nutrition, to his sleep and recovery schedule.”

Calliet spoke about ways you can hit your 2020 goals, advice for staying in shape, his favorite workouts, and more. You’re someone who has shown that keeping great health habits that are productive can be very beneficial. What are some of those sustainable health habits people can work into their lives to help them in 2020? You have to fuel your goals with the right nutrition. We know that quality and consistency are important and that it’s not about counting calories as much as it’s about being intentional with how you nourish your body. I recommend that my clients stick to lean proteins, powerful carbs, and healthful fiber and even fats like those found in all-natural almonds. And it’s important to eat small amounts of nutrient-dense food consistently throughout the day – every 2-3 hours during your eating window. Tip: A handful of almonds can put serious power behind your day delivering 6g of natural and plant-based protein. I always keep a bag ready in my gym bag. What are some ways people can stay active and fit while dealing with a busy schedule? The best advice I can give from my own hectic lifestyle is put your goals first. In my own pursuits, I do all I can to take care of my goals before anything can get in the way of me hitting my marks for the day. This means I’m usually up before anyone can get to me. If I don’t have access to a fully stocked gym, or I’m working on a project filming throughout the night, I make time to hit a workout with whatever I can get my hands on – I’m no stranger to having to come up with hotel room exercises with how much I travel!

What’s a rundown of what a daily day/week is like for the program you’re doing with Michael for Without Remorse? We had to take him from a lean build in his role in Just Mercy to full functioning soldier we first focused on using a fundamental bodybuilding training routine to gain size and change his body composition then entered a 12-week military training camp which included every aspect of basic training. Regardless of what phase of his training we were in, it always included a nutrition plan that had him hitting his macros goals, eating every 2-3 hours and working out twice a day. It’s also important to snack smart. Trail mix with almonds are always on hand – It’s our go-to for that plant-based protein. Our training days would typically include some form of field training with weights to define his physique and increase strength, and HIIT cardio sessions to keep his endurance high. What are some of your favorite workouts/exercises to do in your own personal routines? HIIT workouts are my go-to for when I’m traveling or working sun-up to sun-down. It allows me to get a highly efficient and effective workout in without needing to stress about having all the necessary equipment around me. However, when I’m in the gym, I’ll hit a back or shoulder touch up to finish each of my training sessions. Here’s one of my favorite giant-sets to end a session:
Seated Lateral Raises 3 sets superset | 10 reps (increasing weight each set) Standing Lateral Raises 3 sets superset | 10 reps (increasing weight each set) Barbell Rollout 3 sets | 15 reps
