In a collector’s world where four- and five-figure watches get most of the spotlight, there’s something to be said for affordable timepieces, and for several years now Todd Snyder has been giving us plenty to talk about.

Last year we proclaimed that Todd Snyder’s Timex partnership Mod Watch was the “best $139 you’ll ever spend on a watch,” a statement we might need to revise now that they’ve released the Blackjack Watch. The watch sticks with the same formula as last year’s version: archival Timex designs, Snyder’s reinterpretation, and minimalist simplicity. The Blackjack takes design elements from Formula One and Grand Prix icons. It’s similar enough to the Mod that you might call them members of the same collection, especially if you had secretly wished that last year’s chrome and gray release had also come in black. With 50 meters of water resistance, it’s on par with Snyder’s previous release, with the same $138 price tag — a modest mount to pay, especially when you’re still turning heads among the horologists you know. ($138, toddsnyder.com)
