This is a serious recreational watercraft, people. Yes, it’s inexpensive and no, it won’t take you into the whitewater. It’s designed strictly for fun. It’s ideal for apartment dwellers, and with over 2,200 reviews (more than 80 percent of those give it four or five stars) you know it’s quality.
The Intex Explorer K2 has a streamlined design for easy paddling. Perfect for paddling around lakes and exploring mild rivers, it comfortably seats two adults. Made with rugged vinyl, it has an inflatable I-beam floor for stability and rigidity. A removable skeg provides directional ability, while two adjustable, inflatable seats with backrests provide comfort.
Even better, the seats attach to the floor with hook-and-loop strips, so they’re fully adjustable. The rear strips are longer than the front strips, too, so you can remove one seat and use the Explorer K2 for solo exploring—or even fishing. Several reviewers say they take both seats out and use it as a canoe or even a lazy raft, with both riders facing each other and a cooler or tackle box (or both!) resting in between. Its versatility is almost as appealing as its portability—and its price.
The two 86-inch oars disassemble for easy packing inside the approximately 22″x7″x15″ carrying satchel. On the water, the whole kayak measures about 20″x 36″x 123″. It claims to have a maximum weight capacity of 400 pounds, and you should definitely abide by that guideline—although several reviews state it can accommodate a bit more weight, as long as the water is very calm. But we wouldn’t recommend that. And again, you’re not going to be using this inflatable kayak to run rapids! If you’re looking for an inexpensive, convenient way to spend a fun, relaxing day on the water, you can’t go wrong here.
And the Explorer K2 is awesome for camping. It deflates quickly and easy, so just pack it up and stow it in the car or tent at night or when you decide to go for a hike, and you don’t have to worry about those evil, awful campground thieves.
Quick inflating or deflating the kayak is a breeze with a valve on each side. (Reviewers love to comment how surprisingly sturdy the hand pump is.) A grab line and grab handle at each end make it light and easy to move around even while inflated. In addition to the oars and pump, it also comes with a repair patch kit.
If you want the convenience of a kayak you can take with you anywhere (comes with its own bag), and you want in for low cost, you can’t go wrong with the Intex Explorer K2 inflatable kayak is the ideal choice for on-the-water fun.
