Some of the rarest Balvenie whisky ever bottled is up for auction next week alongside a bespoke Morgan Roadster and a trip to Balvenie’s distillery. Christie’s is auctioning off the lot, which includes The Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter 4 (a set of five rare whiskies valued at $40,000) a bespoke, handcrafted Morgan Roadster car with Balvenie custom interiors (valued at over $80,000), and a trip to the famed Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. We know the roadster—comprised of a Tudor body with a V-8 from Morgan Motor Company decorated with Balvenie’s branding—is a huge draw here, and that a trip to and a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the best distilleries in Scotland is a pretty impressive lot, but it’s important not to overlook the value of these five bottles of whisky.

The Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter 4 is just one of a few major offerings showing up at auction this month from the Scotch whisky world. A bottle of Macallan just this morning broke records for the highest price paid for whisky in history, and another one set to be sold in a couple of weeks aims to break the record again. The Balvenie DCS Compendium, meanwhile, may not have the same high profile, but is nevertheless a whisky collector’s dream. DCS celebrates the work of the Malt Master, David C. Stewart, and comes in a cherry wood and brass frame handcrafted by Scottish craftsman Sam Chinnery.

“This penultimate chapter of the collection is set to the theme of ‘Expecting the Unexpected,’ and brings to life the mystery and magic inherent in whisky maturation,” reads Balvenie’s promotional materials. “Despite nearly a lifetime at his post, David continues to enjoy, and even encourage the unusual and unexpected.” The DCS Compendiums are a soul-crushingly beautiful series of single cask single malt Scotches. We had the opportunity to taste through the third chapter in the series, and the whiskies expertly demonstrated the wide-ranging potential of Balvenie’s massive library of aging whiskies. The Compendiums rarely make it to the public, with one previous version having been featured as a high-profile tasting option on the bar menu at the Ty Bar at the Four Seasons in New York. But that’s an experience you really need to have for yourself. You can find (and bid on) the auction lot here. Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the above hotel where the whisky had been featured on the bar menu. It is the Ty Bar at the Four Seasons, not the Waldorf Astoria.
