Since Saturday, the Sierra Nevada mountain range received 8 feet of snow … and still counting. Most notably, June Mountain’s unofficial count was 72 inches in 24 hours, beating the record held by Echo Summit, of most snow received in California in a 24-hour timeframe.
Another 2-3 feet of snow brings the current storm total to 79-117″! That’s just about 10 FEET since Saturday. Main Lodge and @junemountain will remain closed today due to blizzard conditions. Snowfall and strong and damaging winds are expected today with clearing skies for Wed and Thurs. Although, the count was unofficially measured, so the record is not broken yet. Either way, California is getting dumped on. According to the National Weather Service in Reno, Nevada, The storm-total snowfall at June Mountain from Friday through mid-morning Sunday was measured at 96 inches.
The dig out continues! It has snowed another 4-6" since 6AM with very strong winds. Please note all of town is in R3 restrictions which requires all vehicles, including 4WD, to have chains on. Tuesday, the forecast in Lake Tahoe and Mammoth is partly cloudy with an expected 2-5 inches of snow. Blizzard warnings were in effect the past few days and a winter storm warning is still in full effect. However, the next two days are expected to be clear, so it’s time to break those pow boards out.
