Whether your passion is running, biking, tennis, or golf, odds are you’ll be out there this weekend doing your thing: trying to ace a shot or nail your pace while swiping away streaky sunblock before it dribbles into your eyes. (Unless, ahem, you aren’t wearing any SPF to begin with?) Whichever the case, it’s about time someone came up with a run-free, sweat-friendly, sun-protecting balm for your face. And so they did. Every Man Jack’s Face Shield ($16 at Jet) is a light lotion that comes in SPF 50 and is water resistant for anyone heading out to catch a wave. It is a quick-absorbing formula made from naturally derived ingredients. What that means for you: No harsh chemicals, no parabens or phthalates, and no animal testing.

For the weekend warrior, here are the two best pieces of news: First, Face Shield doesn’t turn into a liquid mess when you sweat. Our testers took it running, sailing, hiking, and beach-lounging (a heretofore little-known summer sport). The consensus: The lotion will outlast a long run in hot, humid conditions; survive sea spray in a 15-knot breeze; and stave off the sun for almost three hours during a lazy afternoon in the sand. The directions say to re-apply after 80 minutes if you are in the water, but we found in lasted nearly twice that long. The second thing we love about Every Man Jack’s Face Shield: It’s fragrance-free. That might sound like a small thing, but for a guy 10 miles deep into a Sunday run, the last thing he wants to inhale is the artificial essence of coconut (or any of the other fake-smelling scents that most sun blocks come in.) Fragrance and hard sweat sessions do not mix, and Every Man Jack, which caters largely to a fitness-conscious clientele, knows this. And finally, if you weren’t convinced yet to give this stuff a try, the company donates 5 percent of the purchase price to MORE Than Sport, an organization that helps transform and restore communities through athletics. We love a brand that walks the walk.
