Allwater is the boutique custom SUP brand created by FCS Fins co-founder Tyler Callaway. A lifelong surfer, Callaway has been integral to the development of the surf and standup paddle industries. When injuries sidelined his surf career he took up SUP, which allowed him to ride waves without aggravating his injuries. His passion for innovation led him quickly to designing boards. The first thing you notice when looking at an Allwater board is the V3-Concave, a triple channel with a spine running down the middle of the board. It sounds weird and looks that way too, but it works. The board is noticeably faster because of that channel, gliding over flat sections easily and projecting down the line when things get steep. It also helps with quick rail-to-rail transitions and allows the board to perform like one with much less volume. The nose of the board is wider than your average short SUP surfboard, with low entry rocker, making it easy to get into waves (just the way we like it) but the multi-winged pintail holds tight in critical pockets, meaning you can surf knee-high mushburgers to overhead barrels, no problem. This versatility was the main factor we wanted in the board and the All water crew nailed it. Along with a quad FCS II setup for quick changes in the rear fins (smaller for when the waves are weak and larger when things pick up), the board had an answer for most conditions. If we were going to tweak the design, we’d take more foam out of the rails to bite harder on bottom turns. That’s part of the journey with custom boards, though: you’re always refining what you want to ride. And Allwater is there to help with that. —WT
