Outdoor Retailer 2019 Winter Market came and went this past week in Denver, Colorado. Combining this year’s show with the Snow Show presented the opportunity to check out all of the latest from the industry for Fall/Winter 2019 gear and apparel. We picked some of our favorite pieces that’ll be perfect for this year’s camping, backpacking, and hiking adventures. Here are the brands and products that caught our eye as we navigated our way across the showroom floor during the three days of the show. Rumpl NanoLoft Puffy Poncho

For Fall 2019, Rumpl has improved on the original design of the Puffy Poncho. It’s one of the ultimate must-have camping kit items. Not only is it like wearing a sleeping bag with a waterproof shell, but it also packs down into the front pocket and can be used as a pillow (with a micro fleece cover). Its invisible zipper pocket holds your beverage (hands-free) and the fleece-lined kangaroo pocket keeps your hands cozy and warm. The poncho is insulated with a new proprietary 100 percent post-consumer recycled NanoLoft insulation and the exterior is made with 100 percent post-consumer recycled 30D polyester ripstop.

Olukai Men’s Hele Malie and Women’s Pehuea Heu

We pegged these fuzzy slip-ons as the most comfortable, multi-functional shoes for camping trips on the Outdoor Retailer floor. The fleece linings and sneaker sensibilities (plus the drop-in heel design, turning it from a shoe to slip-on), make these excellent for end-of-day relaxing and mellow tasks. Not only does Olukai make comfortable, durable, and beautiful products, but they also do a lot of good. Olukai is a B-corp, meaning they meet the higher standards of social, environmental performance and accountability. They give to the Olukai Foundation for every shoe purchased. They strive to preserve land and oceans, and create change across their communities and economies. The name of the Men’s “Hele Malie” translates as “take it easy” and has a suede outer. The Women’s “Pehuea Heu” name translates as “a rising southern wind, fuzziness of Fleece,” and its outer is waterproof Nubuck leather. Pendelton Women’s and Men’s Flannel

Pendelton Fall 2019 includes these beautiful, heavy, semi-insulated flannels with 100-percent wool sourced in Oregon and manufactured in the U.S. They make the perfect cool-evening camp wear (e.g. cooking a delicious meal for the crew in the brisk night air). These classic lifetime pieces can be worn as shirts or light jackets. The Men’s Magic Valley CPO Jacket in Magic Valley Blue and The Women’s Fremont Shirt Jacket in Red/Black Ombre are both 100-percent wool, lined with a 100-percent polyester fill for additional warmth. Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Pant

The Ghost Whisperer pants epitomize comfort and warmth. Slip them on over your Long-Johns for layered warmth before you’re ready to slide out of your sleeping bag. The pants are made from Nikwax Hydrophobic RDS (Responsible Down Standard) Down 800-fill that uses factory applied fluorocarbon-free treatment that stops down from absorbing moisture so it maintains insulation. At less than 10 ounces, they’re lightweight, and they pack down easily into the pocket for easy storage which makes them awesome for backpacking trips. Danner Explorer 650 Full Grain

Danner began making quality boots in the U.S. in 1932. We gravitated toward the Danner Explorer 650 Full Grain line for the perfect pair of camping and hiking boots. They’re aesthetically pleasing, and the OrthoLite footbed and Vibram midsole provide maximum comfort and support for a full day of wear. The durable full-grain leather, nylon upper, Danner Dry waterproof protection, and Vibram outsole with Megagrip technology mean that you rock hop across streams with less chance of slipping, and backpack for miles or walk through long stretches of cactus-strewn desert with confidence. Wigwam Arbor NXT Mid-Crew

Made in Wisconsin in a partly solar-powered facility, Wigwam has a “No Fiber Left Behind” program that donates slightly faulty product (not quite suitable to sell) to 501(c)(3). They also bale leftover yarn to send to other manufacturers to repurpose into things like dog bed filling and various textiles in the automotive industry. The Arbor NXT Mid-Crew, a new style for 2019, incorporates Wigwam’s proprietary INgenius NXT zone lining. (It’s essentially a sock and liner in one.) The merino wool blend fabric draws moisture away from the foot for ensured comfort during activity. The socks incorporate a breathable mesh instep, reinforced heels and toes, zone cushioning, and a seamless underside toes closure – no annoying distractions while you’re on your feet. Snow Peak Hotlips Titanium Mug and Cutlery Set

For the ultimate reusable, durable and lightweight setup to use for backpacking, car camping, or any kind of travel, check out these items from Snow Peak. The Hotlips Titanium Mug (that weighs 3.2 ounces) fits wine, coffee (add Hotlips to prevent your lips from burning on single-walled mug), and a dehydrated meal. And dine like royalty in backcountry, car, airport, or campground with the full titanium three-piece Cutlery Set that fits within a slim canvas case and weighs less than one stainless steel fork. Therm-a-Rest Questar 20

The Questar 20 (in Garmin Green) is made with 650-fill Nikwax hydrophobic RDS (Responsible Down Standard) down that dries three times faster than untreated down without using dangerous PFCs. It has ThermaCapture Seams to trap radiant body heat and retain warmth without adding bulk or weight, Synergy Link Connectors which allow you to integrate the bag with a mattress for optimal comfort and efficiency, zoned insulation, quilt and blanket loops, a foot warmer pocket, heat trapping draft collar, cinchable hood and external zip pocket,and storage sack included. The Questar weighs between 2 pounds and 2 pounds 7 ounces depending on SML size, with a comfort rating at 31 degrees. That means it can still be small enough for a backpacking trip, but a great option for any methods of sleeping under the stars. Klymit Static V2

The Klymit sleeping pad packs small and weighs about one pound, making it great for a backpacking trip. It’s lofty and cozy enough that we recommend it for tent camping and also car/RV camping. Klymit has a refurbishment program that results in no waste: They will either fix your damaged sleeping pad or send you a new one. Within this program, Klymit works with the Softer Streets organization based in Atlanta, Georgia. They donate refurbished pads, or pads not suitable for stores, to the homeless population that participates in Softer Streets. (That’ll certainly help you sleep better.) LifeStraw Flex

LifeStraw is one of those companies that sells a solid product and does a lot of good for disadvantaged people around the world. They work with many charities, like the LifeStraw Safe Water Fund and the GiveBack program (For every LifeStraw product you purchase, a school child in need receives safe drinking water for an entire school year), among many other initiatives. Great for a backpacking trip, trail running, or a long day hike, at 2.7 ounces the LifeStraw Flex comes with a collapsible squeeze bottle and a 2-stage filter. The powerful filter removes bacteria and parasites, micro plastics, and reduces chemicals, lead, and turbidity for the duration of its lifespan of 500 gallons. (LifeStraw estimates that’s about five years of drinking water in the palm of your hand.) The Flex can be used with the pouch, a personal straw (e.g. for trail running where you can drink directly from the water source), adapted to plastic water bottles, or a hydration bladder.
