If you’re like us, Nordstrom isn’t necessarily your go-to shopping spot. But for the next few weeks, the Nordstrom website, at least, should be. Nordstrom’s annual Anniversary Sale runs through August 6, and there are some serious gems to be found — if you’re willing to dig a little bit. But no need to worry, because we got our virtual hands dirty digging for you. And it’s a gold mine in there. Honestly, with the thousands of choices available (no hyperbole), it was hard trying to choose just a few items to highlight. But after combing through page after page on the website, here are Men’s Journal’s top picks from the Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, from jackets to watches to polos to sneakers to … ah man, you get it. Lots of great stuff. And hey, free shipping!
Shoes If you haven’t yet picked up a pair of white sneakers or just want to expand your collection, here’s your chance. Snatch up a pair of these Legend Low Top Sneakers (below). Handmade in Tuscany, they feature soft leather outers with a calfskin lining and waxed cotton laces. Right now they’re $150 (regularly $228) from Good Man Brand, which was launched last year by Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback. Bonus: $3 from every purchase goes to helping inner-city education through Wilson’s Why Not You Foundation.
We’ve been big fans of Johnson & Murphy for years and with such a storied brand, you know you’re getting a quality product. Their Meritt Cap Toe Derby , part of the J&M 1850 collection (a Nordstrom exclusive), is on sale for $110. It’s a classic derby shoe with all the bells and whistles and comes in tan or black. Honestly, we’re kind of over the brown loafer thing; go with the latter, as shown at top. They’ll never go out of style.
Shirts Here’s a classic white dress shirt with a twist from Lorenzo Uomo at $32 off (sale price: $63). It’s called The Perfect White Shirt, and we’re not arguing. With a trim fit, spread collar, French cuffs (so you’ll need some cufflinks), and a touch of blue at the buttonholes for a pop of color to keep you from being too vanilla.
There are polos and then there’s the polos and then there’s the Earl Piqué Polo from Original Penguin ($39). Save $20 on this 100 percent cotton polo in a sharp-looking burgundy with contrast piping in white at the collar and sleeves for an old-school feel that won’t you look too preppy.
For a summer night on the town, get your hands on the Night Owl from California lifestyle brand 7 Diamonds for $53 (regularly $79). This short-sleeved button up in a crisp lightweight cotton that features a distressed-pattern print will set you apart from the pack.
Jeans The Canadian company Naked & Famous Denim is one of our favorites. They only use raw Japanese selvedge denim to create their stellar jeans — that are constructed in Canada — and then sell them at a reasonable price. Right now they’re an even better deal: Snap up a pair of the Weird Guy Slim Fit Jeans for $103, instead of $155. Don’t let the name fool you.
Suits British styling plus Italian wool equals a nice fitting, good looking suit from Ted Baker London. If you’re more inclined to solids, check out the Jay Trim Fit Suit in a rich blue. Or if patterns are more your thing, there’s the Jay Trim Fit Plaid Wool Suit that comes in a somewhat subtle, dark gray plaid. Either way, save more than $250 on either. They’re currently $532 instead of $795.
Outerwear Rag & Bone always manages to impress and their Depot Stretch Cotton Jacket ($330) with its stripped-down, super clean look in a dark navy stays true to the brand’s aesthetic of New York cool and classic tailoring. Get it now for $165 bucks off the regular price, and be set for September.
Accessories Larsson & Jennings, a fairly new company founded in 2012, is beating much older and more established watchmakers at their own game and at a decent price point. Check out the 38 mm Lugano Leather Strap Watch on sale for $224 (regularly $335). The Swiss-made watch features a three-hand Swiss quartz movement, sapphire crystal face, an 18k rose-gold-plated stainless steel case and a subdial that tracks the seconds.
One more we couldn’t pass up… Paul Smith, another UK brand and the namesake company of one of Britain’s most beloved designers, is equal parts fun and polished tailoring. Smith is known for what he calls “classic with a twist” and his Merino Wool Pullover ($150) exemplifies this idea. The soft wool pullover has a band of three welted stripes in vibrant colors at the sweater’s crewneck that play off the rich black of the piece giving it a little something different and special.
