In the age of Lebron decisions, round-the-clock free agent reporting, and breaking sports news seemingly every other day, Shaun White followed suit by announcing this “offseason” via Instagram that he is going to try and qualify for skateboarding at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo … sort of.
Partially tossing his hat in the ring for this upcoming year of skate comps without fully committing, Shaun plans on dipping his toes in the deep end and see how he does against the top skaters in the world first. Coming off the 2018 Olympic gold in actual concrete news for the 24-hour cycle, White addressed his retirement rumors from competitive snowboarding and denied them multiple times. “I am definitely not retiring from the sport of snowboarding, I love it too much. I can’t walk away just yet, but in order to pursue this dream of going to the Summer Olympics, I am going to have to probably take a lighter snowboarding season next year.”

As far as his skateboarding career, we will keep our eyes peeled to see if he pops up at the next Vans Park Series stop in Vancouver in a little over a week. And if there was any place to start his Summer Olympic campaign, he probably would feel pretty comfortable in the city where he claimed his second Winter Olympic gold in the halfpipe.
