Paul Rudd made his name in Hollywood as everyone’s favorite member of the comedy world, so it was a bit of a shock for his fans to see him with a ripped six-pack when he took on the mantle of Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since joining the MCU as Scott Lang, the criminal with a heart of gold, Rudd’s Ant-Man has become a fan favorite character, and naturally for Rudd, a major point of comic relief in the superhero genre. But playing a superhero comes with some big responsibilities, namely, making sure you’re always in “super” fit shape.

With Ant-Man and The Wasp coming out this summer, Rudd made sure to keep himself in shape following the 2015 Marvel hit. He also had to keep it up for an appearance in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, which saw the debut of Ant-Man’s “giant” powers. Rudd hadn’t worked out at this level before in his career, although to be fair, that hasn’t hurt his boyish good looks—Rudd still looks basically the same as he did in Clueless, which came out in 1995 (!!). “I never really stopped working out from the first one into the second one,” Rudd told Men’s Journal. “Eating at certain times—my day is kind of centered around health and fitness, which is a somewhat new experience for me. I never took it to this extreme before. I was one of those people who wanted the results, but didn’t want to put in the work.” Rudd likely will have to keep things up—he’s rumored to play a major part in Avengers 4 after sitting out of Avengers: Infinity War. Check out the video above for more on Rudd’s fitness and nutritional routine. Ant-Man and The Wasp, starring Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Walton Goggins, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas, will be released on July 6. Read more about Rudd’s amazing transformation into Ant-Man in the July 2018 issue of Men’s Journal, on newsstands now.
