On Tuesday Papa John’s announced lower projected sales and profits for the coming year and CEO John “Papa John” Schnatter is pretty sure he knows why. He believes his company, an official pizza sponsor of the NFL, has seen a dip in sales and stock prices because of the League’s inability to curb ongoing player protests of police violence during the National Anthem.

On Wednesday Schnatter held a conference call with the pizza chain’s investors explaining how the NFL had hurt them. “We are disappointed the NFL and its leadership did not resolve this,” he said, according to an ESPN report.  Schnatter slammed the NFL’s top leadership for not “nipping this in the bud” when the protests were begun over a year ago by then 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.  Reacting with these accusations Papa John’s has pulled some future commercials from upcoming NFL games.  While Schnatter has placed blame for his company’s financial dip on the NFL and its players, other pizza chains like Domino’s have seen an increase in stock of 12% this year, according to CNN.
