Standing on a nearby cliff and facing the ocean’s powerful surge, Australian photographer Aidan Williams captured slackliner Andrey Karr above the rocky waters using a Fujifilm XT2, just as a wave crashed behind him. Karr successfully traversed the nearly 85-foot line, though Williams says it was tough going....

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is never worried about sharing his opinion on anything. The subject of medical marijuana is no different. “I’m a proponent of it,” Kerr told The Mercury News on Tuesday after Warriors practice. “I do feel strongly that [marijuana] is a much better option than some of the prescription drugs, and I know that it’s helping a lot of people, which is great.” In 2016, Kerr admitted he’d used marijuana to help manage chronic pain after a 2015 back surgery....

Apparently Saturday nights are for the boys, too. Straight men officially prefer bromance to romance, according to a new study in Men and Masculinities. When researchers surveyed straight undergrad men, they found that the majority of guys reported their close friendships with other dudes to be more emotionally satisfying than their romantic relationships. “The guys we interviewed said that their bromantic friendships were less regulated and less pressured. So while in a romantic relationship, these men felt they have to maintain a better version of themselves; in their bromances, they can remove the mask and expose more of their anxieties or vulnerabilities without fear of judgement and repercussions, like the withholding of sex or drawn-out arguments,” explains study author Adam White, Ph....

New Zealand might not jump to mind when you think of beer destinations—but its brewing history is fascinating, and its craft scene is growing ever more noteworthy. It started in the early 1770s, when Captain James Cook worked up the first (known) batch of beer. He knew Native Americans had been brewing beer from corn and birch sap, so he used molasses, branches from a tree that resembled an American black spruce, wort (a solution made from grain), and mānuka leaves (tea tree) to create his own fermented brew....

Anchor is touting the new brew as a twist on its classic Anchor Porter, which it created in 1972. The Caribbean Smooth is an 8-year-old bottle of blended Scotch finished for six months in Caribbean rum casks. “We’ve blended up to 40 single malts and grain whiskies that have laid in casks for at least 8 years, double aged the blend to ensure our distinctive extra smooth Dewar’s profile, and then finished in ex-Caribbean Rum casks for a period of around 6 months,” said North American Dewar Vice President Brian Cox in a press release....

Update: The Getty Fire continues to burn, and it has now grown to 656 acres. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire has destroyed eight homes and damaged six more, and it’s currently five percent contained. A dangerous new wildfire ignited early Monday morning near the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, causing thousands of people to evacuate their homes as firefighters continue to battle the blaze. The fire—dubbed the Getty Fire because it started near the Getty Center museum—broke out around 1:30 a....
