Californians and Nevadans who watched Lake Tahoe’s water levels recede during the historic drought experienced in the states over the past few years are dealing with a completely different situation now, as the San Francisco Chronicle reports that a recent heat wave poured a staggering 12 billion gallons of runoff into the lake and brought it within a few inches of its max limit. Jozef Urban probably isn’t the most talented distance runner, but he’s shown flashes of brilliance. Over the weekend, Urban finished 10th in the Košice Peace Marathon in Slovakia. On September 14, the Alabama Scenic River Trail will host the second longest paddle race in the world, the Great Alabama 650. As the name implies, the event is a 650-mile haul by canoe, kayak, or paddleboard. A shotgun-style start will ensue on Weiss Lake in the Appalachian foothills of Alabama’s northeast corner.
