British surfers need to keep their mouths shut. A study published in Environment International investigated how surfers and non-surfers weathered exposure to E.coli strains found in the seawater off the coasts of Wales and England. The research found that those who surfed were three times as likely to have contracted a strain of antibiotic-resistant E. coli. A total of 9 of the143 surfers analyzed for the study had the antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) as compared to only two of the 130 non-surfers who were found housing the bacteria....

The study spanned 24 countries and 26,492 people. 61% of those polled believe that some form of life exists outside of our planet and 47% of those people believe it is intelligent life. We might not be alone in the universe after all, at least according to some astronomers from Harvard University. A mysterious, cigar-shaped object that’s been floating through space might have been sent from an “an alien civilization,” according to researchers at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Making it through a marathon is a test of endurance and grit for any runner, but for Steve Quayle, a firefighter from the Isle of Man, last weekend’s London Marathon was an especially difficult challenge. He stepped on a water bottle on the course at mile eight, injuring his foot, calf, and hip. But he powered through the next 18 miles and finished in under four hours (which, for reference, is averaging about 9:00-minute miles), according to CNN....

The beverage giant has purchased Australian brewery Pirate Life, to add to its double digit roster of once independent craft companies. A few weeks ago we had a big northwest groundswell come in on the North Shore (of Oahu) and the buoys were showing 17-foot with an 18 second interval. I paddled out to Log Cabins alone in the morning and (big-wave surfer) Kohl Christensen was the only other guy out. The waves were 45- to 50-foot on the face. I ended up taking a 30-foot wave on the head and breaking my leash and my board, but the swell was so good I still surfed two more times that day (laughs)....
