Poker has never been this dangerous—or this good-looking. The first trailer has been released for Molly’s Game—the true story of Molly Bloom, a former Olympic skier who for a decade ran a multi-million dollar poker game catering to celebrities, movie stars, and business moguls. Jessica Chastain stars as Bloom, who gets in over her head with the Russian mob and the FBI before being taken down. Idris Elba plays Bloom’s lawyer, while Michael Cera stars as “Player X,” one of the celebrities who plays in the titular game. Cera gets the chance to play a somewhat fictionalized version of himself; from the sneak peek we’ve seen thus far, it looks like he’s enjoying the opportunity to take a few shots at the world of Hollywood celebrity. Chastain, of course, absolutely smolders on-screen as she spars with mobsters, the FBI, and her lawyer:
Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) directs from a script he wrote. The supporting cast is likewise fantastic: The film is rounded out by Kevin Costner, Chris O’Dowd, Jeremy Strong, Bill Camp, and Brian d’Arcy James, giving Sorkin a talented group with which to play. The film is based on the book Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker, which detailed Bloom’s operation and the celebrities for whom she held games. Stars like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire were among her clients. Molly’s Game will be released on November 22.
