Story by Nicole Qualtieri In a recent effort to promote recreation, Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) has finished the construction of a riverside launch. The Bear Creek launch site is now open to the general public for non-motorized water entry and exit.
Image Courtesy of MDWFP “Bear Creek is unlike any other stream or creek in the state of Mississippi,” exclaims Larry Pugh, MDWFP’s Executive Fisheries Bureau Director. “Whether you like to fish, you like to kayak, you like to canoe… Bear Creek should be one of your top destinations.”
Bear Creek Canoe Landing Opens from MDWFP on Vimeo. At Tishomingo State Park you’ll find Bear Creek, a scenic stream winding through the bluffs in the park. The park offers a 6.25-mile canoe float trip down the rocky-bottomed stream with the takeout being in the park. Lead Float Trips The float trip operates daily from mid-April until mid-October, (weather and water level permitting). Scenic sandstone bluffs, lush greenery, a canopy of mixed hardwoods and pines, shoals, and Class I rapids with long pools in between provide an enjoyable and exciting trip. Each float trip costs 40 dollars per canoe and advance reservations are recommended. Contact the park office for reservations at (662) 438-6914. All equipment and transportation provided. Personal Trips Personal trips down Bear Creek are available for those who prefer the DIY route or want to fish to their heart’s content. Kayak and canoes allowed to chase a variety of species in this scenic stretch.
