Speaking to the Boston Globe, Woodstock, N.H., fire Chief John MacKay said “Last night as we were getting out of the woods, a passerby stopped and said the night before at 7:35 p.m., he was driving by and saw a meteor streak through the sky and crash.” The fire, which has expanded across 20 acres since Wednesday, has been hard to control due to the area’s rocky landscape, according to Mackay. He also said the actual cause of the fire is still undetermined — a campfire or tossed cigarette could also be at fault. Or… a meteorite. When a meteor crashes to Earth it is then considered a meteorite. The local fire department is not ready to classify the cause as “cosmic.” Check out the full report here.
