Metallica has already topped the charts and earned its spot as one of the world’s most successful bands. So where does the group go from there? Into a new industry, apparently. According to USA Today, the band has joined with Arrogant Consortia, part of San Diego-based Stone Brewing, to create their own beer, called Enter Night Pilsner.

A news release on the band’s website points out that the beer has been available in limited quantities at some Metallica shows, but the brew officially launched in the United States yesterday. It will be available for sale internationally in the spring. “We can’t wait to share this incredible beverage with everyone out there,” Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich wrote online. The beer has been in the works for some time. According to a Stone Brewing press release, Ulrich and Stone co-founder Greg Koch met multiple times to discuss the brew (and knock back a few themselves). Although it might seem like an odd pairing at first glance, the band and the brewery have a lot in common. “Stone Brewing is the perfect partner for us with endless commonalities in our ideals, outlooks, and paths forward,” Ulrich said. Koch is a longtime fan of the band, and noted that he and Metallica have similar attitudes about their respective crafts: “Do it your way and never compromise your art. If you’re great at what you do people will come,” he said.

The duo are calling their creation a “genre-defying” beer that borrows from traditional north German pilsners and combines that legacy with Arrogant Consortia’s “modern overtones of aggression.” Translation: a beer that’s “hop-forward with sound bitterness on the finish.” Enter Night clocks in at 5.7 ABV and 45 IBUs, and it’ll be sold in 16 oz six-pack cans.
