Lobsters have feelings too. The Swiss government has put into effect that restaurants boiling lobsters must use electric shock or “mechanical destruction” to destroy the brain before cooking as of March 1, according to The Guardian. The new rule is simple and direct, and reads, “The practice of plunging live lobsters into boiling water, which is common in restaurants, is no longer permitted”.

Many animal rights activists and scientists believe that lobsters can feel pain because of their advanced nervous system, which would make being boiled alive torturous for the clawed sea creatures. A lobster “feels all the pain until its nervous system is destroyed,” according to zoologist Jaren G. Horley and PETA. The same government order will also take aim at devices that reprimand puppies with pain for barking, and also cracks down on illegal puppy farms.
