Tom Cruise is ready to fly again in Top Gun: Maverick, and he might have a new plane for it. After using the F-14A Tomcat in the original Top Gun, it appears that Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell will have an upgraded F/A-18F Super Hornet as one of his jets of choice.

The photos were first obtained by Revenge of the Fans, showing off the plane and the decal on the side that has Maverick’s name on it. It has not yet been confirmed if this will be the official plane Cruise uses in Top Gun 2, but it looks like it will be part of the production in some fashion. Here’s a look at the plane:

Even though the film has been delayed until 2020, Cruise and the filmmakers have already started production, and are working to fine-tune how they’re going to film the flying scenes in the air. The delay “will allow the production to work out all the complex flight sequences so that the pic can be great,” according to Deadline. In order to view the video, please allow Manage Cookies
Tyler Rogoway of The War Zone described the plane as: “The jet has Topgun’s iconic seal on its tail, which means it would belong Naval Air Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC) at NAS Fallon. So it looks like Maverick is an instructor at the school, which is not surprising.” Cruise is likely to do some flying in the film himself. As he showed in Mission: Impossible—Fallout, Cruise is more than willing to do his own stunts, like jumping out of a plane for a HALO jump or flying a helicopter, so expect to see Cruise in the cockpit for Top Gun 2. In fact, Cruise has been flying already:
