When it’s blazing hot out, an unstructured (or “deconstructed”) blazer, basically a jacket without the lining, shoulder pads, and other stifling stuff, is the perfect way to remain dapper without looking like you’ve been hanging out in a sauna all day. Made of 100 percent linen, this blazer is lightweight and breathable and cut in a slim, but not body hugging, fit. It looks equally good with trousers or slim-cut, summer-weight jeans.
Michael Bastian Deconstructed Blazer Award-winning American designer Michael Bastian has been focused on reinventing what “basics” are all about i.e. beautifully-designed style essentials with a New York feel and Italian craftsmanship. Earlier this year he launched his Gray Label, which brings his aesthetic to more guys thanks to a lower price point. The company’s red and navy seersucker blazer ($199 at Spring), sums this up nicely. Seersucker has been the goto summer cotton fabric for generations of men living in tropical regions thanks to its weave which is puckered and striped. It’s the puckering of the fabric that helps keep the wearer cool by allowing for better airflow between the fabric and the skin. The traditional colorway is blue and white and here is where Jachs veers from the classic, preferring a bold red and navy stripe and a slimmer cut for a standout look that is anything but traditional.
Bermondsey Blazer This blazer pairs British style and Italian craftsmanship in a comfortable 100 percent brushed cotton that’s unlined to keep you cool and comfortable. It’s formal enough for work, but stylish enough for play with bound seams on the inside—a sewing technique that hides the fabric’s raw edges—which gives the interior as clean a look as the outside.
