Between filming, press interviews, and tending to their families’ needs, it’s almost baffling how actors—like many other professionals—manage to stay fit. Ever wonder how actors do it? Making time for the gym, however, is no issue for Essence cover star Idris Elba. While in Thailand filming a documentary about Muay Thai fighting, the 44-year-old actor sat down for the magazine’s newly revealed August issue to discuss his upcoming projects, jam-packed schedule, and love life.
Come relax with me 😉 Truly proud to be on the cover of @essence August issue! Available on newsstands 7/14 A post shared by Idris Elba (@idriselba) on Jul 11, 2017 at 8:24am PDT
In his cover interview, Elba spoke about his directorial debut in his upcoming film Yardie. “Yardie is quite a semifamous bit of English literature about a small-time pastor who comes from Jamaica and ends up embroiled in [avenging his brother’s death],” he told Essence about his directorial debut. “It’s set in the late ’70s, early ’80s—a hotbed of Jamaican culture in London, but then crack cocaine arrives.” When asked about finding love again in the midst of raising two kids and his action-packed schedule, the actor was bluntly honest: “Am I ever gonna get remarried? I don’t think so. Yeah, I don’t think so,” he said. “Marriage is an institution of sorts. And I’ve done it. It’s not for everybody. It’s not my life’s calling.” How’s that for honesty? You can expect to see Elba in a few of his upcoming projects, which include his leading role in the fifth season of Luther, as well as The Dark Tower, set to release nationwide on Aug. 4, 2017.
