Over the Mission: Impossible film series, each movie has upped the ante from its predecessor when it comes to stunts. From the infiltration of the CIA in the first film, to scaling the Burj Khalifa in Ghost Protocol, and hanging off a flying plane in Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise hasn’t been afraid to put himself in death-defying situations. For Mission: Impossible–Fallout, Cruise and the crew took it to another level. While most action films have one or two “signature” stunt scenes, MI:6 has at least five different ones that could go down as the most memorable action moment of the movie.   In the newest featurette from the film, Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie, and stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood discussed how they shot those five key stunts in the film, including Cruise hanging off of a flying helicopter, the motorcycle chase through the busy streets of Paris, and the rooftop jump that left Cruise with a broken ankle.

Naturally, in badass fashion, Cruise managed to finish the rooftop jump scene even though he smashed his leg on the side of a building. “[Tom] knew he had to finish this,” McQuarrie said. “Because we’re not coming back [to shoot again], and he pulled himself up to get the shot.” Broken ankle be damned.
