Some things in this world are just priceless: landing a date with your dream girl, achieving a life-changing body transformation, experiencing Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s reaction to re-watching The Scorpion King. As a matter of fact, it’s pretty damn difficult to put a price tag on a ton of things. But what if you had to? And what if money were no object? (If money were no object, you’d probably start by throwing down on all of this insanely expensive luxury gym equipment.) That’s exactly what PayPal asked roughly 1,000 people to do in a recent online survey: place a dollar amount on “priceless” things friends might have done for you. For example: One of the survey questions asked both men and women to put a dollar value on a hypothetical friend who set them up with their wife/husband. That big-ticket item is worth $4.4 million on average. Some experiences earned remarkably different valuations from women and men. Imagine a friend who goes on a trip with you: Women think that person is worth $2,619, while men would be willing to pony up $734. (So if you’re a dude, you might be more likely to embark solo on one of these ultimate American road trips.) Most surprising, though, is how much guys valued the person who works out with them—the all-important gym buddy. Men valued their workout buddy at about $545—which, if you crunch the numbers, could get you over a year’s membership at a 24 Hour Fitness and buy you more than a few personal training sessions at some of the best gyms in America. But crushing one of these brutal CrossFit WODs or high-intensity workouts with your best buddy isn’t just worth a boatload of cash, it’s also good for your health. Bromances can actually be more important to your happiness and overall health in the long run than your own family, a recent study found. So if you’ve got a few quality friends, try not to lose ’em—your health and fitness depends on it.
