This video was produced in partnership with lululemon men. Five-time World Cup overall champion downhill mountain biker Aaron Gwin has learned over his career that it’s not just him out on the course. “It definitely looks like an individual sport,” Gwin says. “But it’s a huge team effort, so that when I drop in for a three-minute race run, I have the best chance possible to be successful. You’re relying on the team for everything.” A few years back, Gwin was not comfortable riding for a factory team. Something just didn’t feel right. So he decided to step beyond that model, and going into the 2016 racing season, he started his own team.

It’s all about having a solid team in your corner. This has given him more freedom to make sure the team operates as one cohesive unit and looks out for one another, which backs up his philosophy that mountain bike racing is certainly a team sport. When you have a whole team behind you, working toward a common goal, it doesn’t just make things go better on the course; it means every member of the team earns the victories.
