On October 1, ski mountaineers Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison became the first people to summit and ski down Lhotse in the Himalayas, according to Freeskier. The duo summited the 27,940-foot mountain (the fourth-tallest on earth) and skied down a 7,000 foot couloir, or narrow gully, in an epic 17-hour sprint.

Nelson and Morrison have quite a long list of mountaineering accomplishments. Both have summited Mount Everest and skied from the summit of Cho-Oyu, the sixth-tallest mountain on earth, but Lhotse has been on their minds for awhile. According to Freeskier, they made a pact to ski the mountain after a failed attempt to ski Makalu, another Himalayan peak, in 2015.
