Patagonia’s Worn Wear program has been fixing tattered and heavily used Patagonia threads for quite a while now. It’s shaken up an industry that has always focused on getting the consumer to buy more of their product. The Worn Wear program turned that thinking on its head and basically said, “No, don’t buy a new one — we’ll fix it for you.” Earlier this year they launched a beta trade-in promotion for their Worn Wear program. Now that rolling Worn Wear tour has launched the next phase of their reuse and recycle philosophy: an official Worn Wear online store.

Now that the tour has come to a close (we’ll be back out soon!) we’d like to take a moment to let you all in on what’s happening with the #WornWear store: Thanks to you guys, all of our gear is off the shelves and back in the field! We are currently re-stocking. Want to help? Trade in your used @patagonia clothing for credit at your local @patagonia store. For locations and full details, click the link in our profile. And stay tuned, we will update you once the store is back live! A post shared by Worn Wear (@wornwear) on Apr 27, 2017 at 7:37pm PDT

The best part is you don’t even have to trade used gear in for it, you can just buy the repaired second-hand gear like you would any other item. Much like a used clothing store (known as vintage stores in hip places around the country), it further emphasizes Patagonia’s commitment to making use of what we already have. As the Worn Wear website points out, “One of the most responsible things we can do as a company is to make high-quality stuff that lasts for years and can be repaired, so you don’t have to buy more of it.”

Who wouldn’t be stoked on this new program? Photo: Courtesy of Patagonia Worn Wear takes the trade-ins, offers credit for other used items or new ones from Patagonia, repairs the traded-in gear and then lists it online for someone to give it a new home. All Patagonia retail stores take the trade-ins, so you don’t even have to deal with mailing your used items out. And they even have a price list to let you know what your clothes are worth and what they’re currently accepting. It’s really a win-win for consumers, as it provides an incentive to trade your gear in for new gear as well as now giving a platform where those repaired items with plenty of life left to give can offer somebody some quality threads. If you’re looking to save some money (and the planet) this is welcomed news. Check out the Patagonia Worn Wear store here.
