It’s time to get streaming. There’s only a month until Labor Day and you still haven’t knocked down your Netflix queue like you thought you would this summer. Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time to spend streaming some quality TV and movies after your next beach day, camping trip, or workout. In order to view the video, please allow Manage Cookies
Netflix is debuting a number of original series and movies this month, including the second season of the critically-acclaimed crime drama Ozark, and the father-daughter dramedy Like Father starring Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer. If you’re into Oscar winners, you’re in luck, too—movies like No Country for Old Men, Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator, and Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring all will hit the platform.

Here are three things to check out—and everything else coming to Netflix this month. The Informant! – Aug. 1 If you need a good laugh, this underrated comedy directed by Steven Soderbergh will do the trick. Based on the real-life story of whistleblower Mark Whitacre, who served as an informant about the lysine price-fixing conspiracy in the ’90s, the film features Matt Damon and a cast of comedic actors like Tom Papa, Patton Oswalt, Paul F. Tompkins, Scott Adsit, and Joel McHale balancing a semi-ironic tone with the ridiculousness of the true story. Whitacre sees himself like an actual spy, and while he’s informing for the FBI, he’s also embezzling money, further complicating an already complicated case. (Seriously, the real-life story is pretty wild.)

The Good Place, Season 2 – Aug. 28 The first season of the Kristen Bell-led comedy followed Eleanor Shellstrop, a woman who ends up in the afterlife after being killed by some runaway shopping carts. She wakes up and meets Michael (Ted Danson), her guide through “The Good Place.” But there’s one problem: Eleanor was definitely not a good person, and she’s in the wrong place—literally. Bell is at her best as the scheming Eleanor, while Danson, and the other co-stars—William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden, and Manny Jacinto—each have their own standout moments. We won’t spoil the reason why, but it would be well worth watching the first season to catch up before Season 2 hits Netflix.

Ozark, Season 2 – Aug. 31 Jason Bateman stars in this crime series as Marty Byrde, a financial planner who gets involved with some really bad dudes and has to relocate to the titular summer resort community. While there, Byrd must juggle a money laundering scheme to help pay back a massive debt and the safety of his family—all while staying a step ahead of the authorities. Bateman gives one of the best performance of his career—and it’s a stark difference from his comedic work on Arrested Development. Catch up on the 10-episode first season before Season 2 goes live.
