Daniel Craig is back as James Bond—officially. After weeks of rumors and speculation, Daniel Craig revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he would be returning to the role. Craig has played Bond in four films and he said that he “couldn’t be happier” about it. “I’ve been quite cagey about it,” said Craig to Colbert. “But I kind of felt like, if I was going to speak the truth, I should speak the truth to you.” “Daniel Craig: will you return as James Bond?” Colbert asked. “Yes, I couldn’t be happier,” Craig said, confirming the long-rumored news.

Story updated above We always knew that James Bond would return to the big screen eventually, but whether actor Daniel Craig would return to play the titular character (or be replaced by any number of these of sauve, superfit Brits) has remained a mystery. But the prospects of Craig’s return brightened a good deal over the weekend: Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has apparently convinced Craig to sign on to play 007 for the fifth time, according to a new report from The Daily Mirror, a U.K. tabloid. Despite Craig’s vocal lack of interest in reprising the role—he famously said during the Spectre press tour that he’d rather “slit my wrists” than play Bond again—executive producer Callum McDougall told the BBC that Craig continued to be the “first choice for the role.” And it would seem that the waiting—and probably the hefty paycheck—has finally paid off. In another strong note for Craig franchise continuity, Adele—who won a Grammy and an Oscar for her opening track in 2012’s Skyfall—may also return to the Bond team. Broccoli is said to be “determined” to have Adele sing the upcoming film’s theme song, according to The Daily Mirror‘s report, which cited “a source involved in the project.” Given that the Craig-Adele partnership made Skyfall the most profitable Bond film of all time (it raked in more than $1 billion worldwide), we can easily understand why. The upcoming film has no official start date, but we’ll likely have to wait before we get to see Craig back in world-saving, ass-kicking action. In the meantime, though, you’ll want to check him out alongside Channing Tatum in the trailer for the hilarious and explosive upcoming comedy Logan Lucky.
