Cristiano Ronaldo did it again. The Real Madrid superstar took home his second straight world’s best male player trophy at the 2017 Best FIFA Football Awards on Monday night. The 32-year-old had a hugely successful 2016-17 season, leading Real Madrid to the Champions League title and the La Liga title, and guiding Portugal to a championship at Euro 2016. Ronaldo beat out rivals Lionel Messi and Neymar to win the award. Ronaldo scored 33 goals in 37 games played. While that was fewer than Messi’s total tally for the year, Ronaldo earned the championship hardware to help put him over the top. “We are in England for the first time, and I win it for the second consecutive time. This is a great moment for me,” Ronaldo said, according to the BBC. This was the second edition of the Best FIFA Football Awards. FIFA’s own awards were established in 2016 after the organization decided to split off from a partnership with France Football magazine, which awards the coveted Ballon d’Or. Ronaldo can still take home that award as well after winning it in 2016.
