Skye Walker has been an artist for most of his life. Primarily a muralist, he’s traveled far and wide, painting commercial and private murals all over the place. And this year, Walker realized a long-time dream of his: to travel the country on a year-long mural tour. Of course, to do that, he needed somewhere to stay along the way. Instead of going the traditional hotel and camping route (which would have hindered both his wallet and his spontaneous schedule), Walker enlisted the help of some friends and built his dream van that will serve as his home-on-wheels for the next 12 months as he embarks on his Sea-to-Sea Tour. Walker put a lot of thought into his 2017 Mercedes Crew Sprinter 4×4, and made everything as modular and functional as possible. His work station and fridge slide out when needed, and slide away when not in use, as well as his Goal Zero Yeti Lithium Ion battery, which powers most of his devices. “If you can spend the money to get the better element that’s going to last longer, do it,” Walker says of the build. “If you’re going to live in it, you want to spend the money to enjoy it.” With the help of several sponsors, Walker has made the van his dream retreat on wheels. Featuring plenty of storage for mountain bikes, surfboards and more, as well as all of his painting supplies, the van also features surround-sound speakers, customized cabinets and sleeping area, and a custom wrap that he painted and designed with his good friend Chris Benchetler. Walker has even given the van a name, Van Go, and its own Instagram account, @vango_go, where fans of Walker’s and those that are interested in the tour can follow along. All in all, Walker’s van isn’t just about getting across the country in a comfortable and compact way … It’s about living out your dream, and committing to doing things your own way.
