If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, Chaco has likely been on your radar for quite some time. Founded on the river in 1989, Chaco has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) time and time again for their exceptional quality and dedication to comfort, health, and safety. Chaco is no stranger to rad collaborations and recently their partnerships with Northwest River Supplies and the National Parks Foundation caught our attention.

At home, on the river. Photo: Chaco Footwear In celebration of the 50thanniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, Chaco collaborated with NRS to create a pair of unique, limited-edition sandals. The National Wild and Scenic Rivers System was implemented by Congress in 1968 in order to preserve and protect rivers with natural, cultural, and recreational value. The Act strives to protect the special characteristics of these rivers while simultaneously recognizing the importance for their appropriate use and development. To honor and celebrate wild and scenic rivers worldwide, Chaco created a pair of Z/Sandals that feature blue and yellow webbing inspired by the iconic NRS tie-down straps. The sandals are made in the USA and are available in both men’s and women’s styles. Additionally, Chaco donated $10,000 to American Rivers and their 5,000 Miles of Wild, a campaign dedicated to protecting rivers and riverside lands across the nation.

In addition to a $50,000 donation to fund the Foundation’s education, preservation, and conservation initiatives, Chaco created a line of limited-edition sandals inspired by the parks. The line of NPF sandals launched on September 26, 2016, one month after the National Park Service celebrated its 100th birthday. The sandals are made in the USA, include men’s and women’s styles, and feature colors and artwork inspired by the National Park Foundation’s logo.

The collection currently includes nine different styles: Zion, Smokies, Rocky Mountain, Everglades, Big Bend, Glacier, Redwoods, Yellowstone and Yosemite. “Through our partnership with Chaco, park enthusiasts can literally ‘walk the walk’ and take pride in the fact that their sandals support the national parks they love,” says National Park Foundation president Will Shafroth. “Part of building the strongest next century possible for our national parks is engaging in innovative partnerships that raise awareness about all the different ways people can support these treasured places.” Our Take

It’s a good feeling when the shoes you love help protect the places you love. Photo: Chaco Footwear While Chaco has been involved in many partnerships and collaborations in the past, these two are by far our favorites. The sandals feature the traditional Chaco styles we know and love but they also support the lands and rivers we call home. It’s comforting to know the shoes on our feet will not only keep us covered on all of our adventures but will also protect our favorite playgrounds.
