The most notable were India abolishing all single-use plastic by 2022 and Disney (and Starbucks) eliminating all single-use plastic straws and stirrers from their locations by mid-2019. In the latest single-use plastic ban news, the Caribbean island of Dominica plans to ban single-use plastic and Styrofoam products. According to CNN, the island nation announced its aim to completely ban common plastics, Styrofoam cups and food containers – Effective by January 2019.

After the island was nearly swept to pieces by Hurricane Maria, Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit made it a point to continue to rebuild his nation sustainably. “We must rebuild and reset our society and economy and protect our environment in order to achieve a new, more resilient Dominica,” said Skerrit in a statement. “Dominica prides itself as the ‘Nature Isle.’ We must in every way deserve and reflect that designation. The issue of solid waste management affects that perception and we continue to grapple with it.” h/t CNN More Environmental News From ASN 5 Reusable Straw Options to Help Lessen Your Single-Use Plastic Consumption Dispatches Andros Island: Ecotourism and the Preservation of This Beautiful, Remote Archipelago Hydro Flask Raises Nearly $80,000 and Donates It All to The Conservation Alliance
