Budweiser has totally spaced out. The company announced an ambitious plan to brew beer on Mars at this year’s South by Southwest festival. And next month, the brewer is actually going to make it happen. Barley will be sent to the International Space Station and studied in the galactic environment. Bud is specifically interested in how beer ingredients work in microgravity.

Two barley experiments will be conducted with SpaceX’s next cargo supply mission. Launch will take place on December 4th from Cape Canaveral in Florida. 20 barley seeds will be shot into space and remain there for 30 days, then come back down to be studied by Budweiser’s innovation team.
