In an interview with Sports Illustrated Favre explained why he was funding research with pharmaceutical company Prevacus and their new concussion drug. It’s a neurosteroid that is meant to be given to the player nasally right after the impact of a jarring hit. The drug is said “to counter the effects of concussion at the cellular level,” according to the report. The drug has been tested in animals, but there has been no human testing done as of yet. Even though it’s still in initial stages, Favre has been able to recruit other former NFL players like Kurt Warner to join Prevacus’s advisory board and try and do something to combat the league’s rampant concussion problem. “Playing 20 years and not missing a game in 19 of those is a great thing, but I can’t believe that it’s going to do anything good for my long-term health,” Favre told S.I. “And there’s not a day goes by—of course, the news that I hear periodically doesn’t help—but there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t wonder…” Read the full report here.
