Big Sky Resort in Montana announced recently that they are working on North America’s first eight-person chairlift. Not only that, but it will be a high-speed chairlift that includes heated seats and a storm shield. Dubbed the “Ramcharger 8,” Big Sky calls it “The most technologically advanced lift ever built.” Boyne Resorts President Stephen Kircher said they plan to unveil the new chairs next winter season and that they will replace an older existing chair.

The announcement comes as part of Big Sky’s commitment to technologically update the resort’s infrastructure. Dubbed “Big Sky 2025,” it aims to create the biggest alpine experience in North America.
Chairlifts in North America have been trending towards technological updates to match what the likes of Europe offers. Just this winter, Winter Park Resort in Colorado implemented chairlifts with digital screens. It weill be interesting to see how bringing the larger eight-person chairlift to North America may have other resorts clamoring to match the chairlift clout of Big Sky in the coming winters.
