Coconuts Bali reported that a fire broke out in Uluwatu on Monday afternoon. The cause was unknown at first, but earlier on Tuesday, they reported that sparks from a welding project are believed to be the cause of the blaze. The fire was understood to have originated somewhere near Ulu Cliff and spread to Bluepoint in Labuansait in Bali’s Bukit Peninsula just up from the island’s famous Uluwatu surf break.
Walking out my front door at Padang Padang I noticed a huge smoke cloud coming from Uluwatu. I grabbed my drone, hopped on my scooter, and raced toward the blaze. Once I reached Angle Mart the scene was hectic. Fire trucks were racing back and forth trying to get the raging fire under control. I have to admit for the lack of support they did an amazing job and got the fire contained before it reached Single Fin and the warungs underneath. Very sad to see so much destruction, just hoping everyone is ok. A post shared by Rory Russell (@rrussell240) on Jul 23, 2018 at 4:59am PDT
Badung Fire Department Chief I Wayan Wirya confirmed with reports on Tuesday that the welding was being conducted on the second floor of the Ocean One wedding building project. Thankfully, there were no fatalities but 14 villas were destroyed and together the damage totaled to an estimated $275,500. h/t Coconuts Bali
