It’s no secret to anyone who’s ever spent anytime recreating in the outdoors that Smartwool makes some of the best socks in the world, for everything from cycling to hiking, to running. Slightly less well known, though, is that the rest of their apparel is similarly top-notch. Their 100 percent merino wool baselayers are essentially unmatched; their casual outerwear is as handsome as it is high-performing, and their running tights are as comfortable (and as stink-free) as any we’ve tried. And for the rest of the day, it’s all on sale for 25 percent off.  If we had to choose one item to recommend, it’d be the PhD Ultra Light short-sleeve running shirt, which is a perfect blend of 56 percent merino wool and 44 percent polyester, providing a pleasantly soft feel that’s got just enough stretch. There are also mesh panels for added breathability and totally flat seams to avoid any chafing or general discomfort — and like those tights we just mentioned, it’s pretty great at fending off unsavory smells, like, to the point where you forget to bring any other running shirts with you on an extra-long weekend and wear it every single day with no one at the free hotel breakfast buffet giving you weird looks. Or so we’ve heard.
