Costa Rican officials said a tiger shark killed an American tourist last week. The woman was diving with an instructor in Manuelita in the Isla del Coco National Park when they were attacked, according to ABC News. The instructor saw the shark approaching and attempted to scare it off, but it still attacked the female tourist. Above the divers, a man waiting in the boat also tried to fight off the shark but was unsuccessful. The two divers did make it back to the surface and boat, but injuries to the woman’s legs were severe. National Park officers were able to respond to the situation, but the woman passed shortly after. Her name has yet to be released.
