The American Alpine Club, the country’s oldest and largest climbing advocacy organization, is partnering with The North Face once again to launch the 2019 Live Your Dream Grants to climbers of all ages, experience levels and climbing disciplines. Applications are open from now until March 31 and are available online.

Photo: Courtesy of AAC Since 2012, the American Alpine Club and The North Face have enabled nearly 600 adventures large and small with nearly $275,000 in financial support. Live Your Dream Grants are unique in that the main objective is to help ordinary climbers improve their skills and help facilitate life-changing adventures. For the 2019 grant cycle, the AAC and The North Face will give away $50,000 in grant money ranging from $200 – $1,000 per individual. There is an application fee of $5 for members of the AAC and $20 for non-members, and AAC membership is required only if a grant is awarded. Kalli Schumacher, a 2018 Live Your Dream Grant recipient, used her grant money to climb in multiple mountain ranges across the United States over the course of a single summer. Reflecting on the experience, Kalli says, “I think Live Your Dream’s biggest impact on my progression was to unravel the mystique behind the mountains. As a woman of color and a mountaineer, promoting inclusivity across race, gender, economic status, and whatever barrier-to-entry someone might experience is very important to me, and it’s exactly what Live Your Dream does. This grant gives opportunity where it might not otherwise exist.” The Live Your Dream Grant is designed for everyone from bouldering to big walls, alpine to ski mountaineering, peak bagging to bolt clipping … and everything in between. The program’s objective is to progress each climber and build the transition them out of the gym and into their first ascent in the greater ranges. Above all, the purpose of this grant is to support and promote unforgettable experiences for those who love climbing.
