Alpaka, an Australian baggage startup, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its latest innovative backpack called the Shift Pack ($159, estimated delivery in January 2018). We’re all about functionality, style, and adaptability, and the Shift Pack delivers in all three areas. It’s super versatile, thanks in part to its roll-top design that allows you to go from carrying a medium-sized laptop (up to 17 inches) in well-padded safety for your commute to a weekend getaway pack with enough room for clothes, thanks to the large main expandable compartment. It also sports a luggage sleeve on the contoured back panel, a dedicated spot for shoes, and various other spaces including two easily accessible spaces on the pack’s straps for your keys, credit cards, and cash. And it keeps sticky-fingered strangers at bay with a hidden compartment for valuable things like your passport. It can also handle the outdoors. And with its padded straps, a ventilated back padding and a chest strap, we were comfortable carrying it around all day. We wouldn’t recommend a weeklong trek in the mountains, but for day hikes or overnight trips, it’ll get the job done. The cushioned bottom compartment is perfect for a DSLR camera or even a small drone. As for style, it’s got a minimalist vibe in either black nylon or faux wool in carbon gray or indigo blue colorways, and cool magnetic closures. Durable, weather-resistant, and easy to clean, the Shift Pack looks good whether you’re heading to work, the airport, or the woods.
