Presidential style brings with it the thought of suiting. It’s just a reality: a majority of the time when we see an American president, he’s in a black, navy or gray suit. In a new capsule collection out this week, Abercrombie & Fitch explores that style. After buying a pair of vintage A&F chinos owned by Kennedy at auction last year, the 125-year-old company has built out a 10-piece capsule collection with an updated version of the chinos as the centerpiece. The range references sailing, one of Kennedy’s favorite pastimes, and the brand’s own history as an adventurer’s outfitter.

The Kennan Straight chinos, inspired by a pair of Abercrombie trousers worn by President John F. Kennedy. Abercrombie & Fitch The chinos themselves come with the same wide cut of the legs that the originals had, as well as a high waist and tonal herringbone pocketing, all done in a cotton twill. Expect a bit of heft to them because of the compact weave, making them more likely to hold up over time. “It is an honor to get to work with such a rich heritage, and to offer our customer products with authentic stories is a unique opportunity,” said Aaron Levine, SVP of Design for Abercrombie & Fitch, in a statement. “It is an iconic style, befitting of an American icon.” In addition, a selection of hoodies (one a fleece) featuring the A&F ‘Sailing Club’ logo and a few pairs of swim trunks round out the range. The pieces all pay homage to Kennedy’s love of sailing and all retail for under $100.
