Living a life on the road seems like the ultimate nomadic dream, tied to a sense of unparalleled freedom. Everything you need is on-hand at all times, and you can drift to wherever your heart leads you and quickly post up for the night wherever you end up. If you have fantasized about what it’s like to live out of a van, or simply just yearned for a way to travel that’s free from commitment, the option of renting a van has likely crossed your search. In this episode of Road Ways, Ben Judkins and Katie Rodriguez’s road trip across Colorado serves as the perfect opportunity to test out the perks of vanlife, and get a feel for a life on the road. Their goal was to hit all four of Colorado’s national parks in seven days: Great Sand Dunes National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, with a few pit-stops in between. They called it the Colorado Boot Loop – based off the boot-like shape of the route on a map. The couple rented a RAM ProMaster cargo van – courtesy of Kuku Campers – complete with a kitchen, plenty of storage, and a modular bed that converted to a dining room area. It had all the amenities they would need to eat, sleep, and travel in comfort with plenty of space for all of the toys (foldable kayak, anyone?). The van fueled their penchant for exploration over the course of a week as they sandboarded in Great Sand Dunes, biked across Black Canyon of the Gunnison, hiked one of the most famous 14’ers in the state and kayaked underneath the quaking aspens of Crested Butte. Curious to give the vanlife a go? You can check out a vehicle that would best suit your needs and travel plans at Kuku Campers. Video and Edit by Ben Judkins. Assistant Editing by Taylor Lane.
